The Cambridge residential is becoming a well established and popular part of the KAN APP, with this the third successive summer that our cohorts have visited. Fitzwilliam is our base for the week, a college that is inextricably intertwined with the development of the programme!

Following on from two successful sessions at our Tonbridge residential last week, we were excited to welcome our new friends at 2-3 degrees up to Fitz, and they certainly did not disappoint! Their workshop on how to overcome your fears was as engaging and motivational as their work with our year 9 and 10, and it was an outstanding way for the programme to get going. What is more, 2-3 degrees seem to love twitter and the work they are doing with us as much as we do, as this video suggests!

As ever when we visit Cambridge we are indebted to our two primary partner colleges – Fitz due to their role at the outset of the programme, and Queens’ with their responsibility for widening access in Kent. While Fitz are hosting us this time around, Queens’ PhD student Alice Waterhouse spoke on Sunday evening, and we were shown round the college on Monday morning by their Schools Liaison Officer. The students also enjoyed tours of Peterhouse and Trinity Hall Colleges and, as looking at the pictures will attest, there are few nicer things to be doing on a sunny morning!

The main thrust of activity our students are taking part in this week is once again provided by the Brilliant Club Scholar’s Programme. The Brilliant Club is an organisation which uses graduate students to provide University style courses to aspiring University students, with our two cohorts this year provided with a choice of three different bespoke programmes – something to meet almost every need or interest! More on the Brilliant Club over the course of the week…

Keep following our twitter account for the latest updates on the residential (and hopefully more sunny pictures of Cambridge).
