Easter Residential Blog #2
It has been another action packed day on the KAN APP Easter residential, and the beautiful weather to greet the start of British Summer Time has helped to ensure spirits have remained high.
Saturday afternoon and evening saw two excellent speakers visit our students. Mick Kent, former CEO of Bromford spoke about his experiences and the importance of education, both of the formal and informal variety. Mick delivered a fantastic talk matched by the quality of the questions from our students, delving in to the story he had told, as well as the different ways of understanding social responsibility and the role of the government and private or charitable organisations in providing sustainable welfare.
The evening talk came from the former Managing Director of Isuzu trucks in the UK, Nikki King, who spoke about being a leading female in a male dominated business, different cultures she had encountered through her work, and the importance of taking and making the most of opportunities as they are presented to you, including lots of laughs and amusing anecdotes along the way! The messages put forward by our speakers really resonated with our students, and both talks will live long in the memory of those who were there.
Sunday, after the realisation that clocks jumping forward meant an hour less in bed, has followed a now familiar routine of individually tailored lessons and revision support for our exam cohorts, including Psychology, English, Geography, Physics, Economics and History and more extension based content for our others. The highlight has almost certainly been the robotics session for our year 10 – see our twitter page for the virtual reality vide game in action!
With half an eye on the future we have also been visited this afternoon by our partners from United Learning, and three of the new mentors who have been hired ahead of new cohorts starting in the summer – exciting times for the charity lie ahead!
