AAF launch United Access Programme
The AAF are delighted to be advertising for applications for learning mentors to support the first cohort to be accepted on to a second programme, the United Access Programme.
This pioneering scheme, a collaboration with United Learning, is modelled on the Accelerate and Access Foundation’s current flagship programme, the Academies Partnership Programme in Kent (KAN). Having been established in 2013, the APP has been running in Kent for the last three years and early outcomes have been highly promising, with students, parents and schools all positive in their feedback (evidenced in a report prepared by the Centre for Evaluation Management at the University of Durham). The first cohort to take part in the APP in Kent are currently in year 13, with the first University offers starting to arrive towards the end of last year.
United Access is a four-year-long university access programme aimed at raising aspirations and opportunities amongst disadvantaged students. Three year 9 students from each of the six participating schools will be selected for this programme. The six schools involved are all local United Learning academies, recreating the intimacy which has allowed the APP in Kent. The six schools involved are Midhurst Rother College, Totteridge Academy, the Hurlingham Academy, the Regis School, Wye School and Lambeth Academy.
United Access will open with a residential event at Caterham School in July 2017. Every year for the next four years, these students will come back for two residentials – one at Caterham and one at a leading university. They will take part in university-style lectures and exciting enrichment activities. In addition, the students will be mentored by Undergraduates who will keep in touch with them online between the residentials, supporting them through their various academic stages.
Further information and an application form are available on the United Learning website.
