Fitzwilliam and the UAP

Fitzwilliam, or ‘Fitz’, has been a partner of the KAN UAP since its first event in the summer of 2013, where four Fitz undergraduates were employed as the learning mentors for the first UAP cohort. The success of the programme, and of the learning mentors, saw this relationship continue with Fitz providing mentors for every subsequent UAP cohort. In addition to this, Fitz has hosted several UAP events: it is the regular venue for the February meet-up, which gives students a chance to see where their mentors live, work and play, while experiencing what student life is like in a major university city.

Last summer, the 2013 cohort’s summer residential was hosted by Fitz, with the college covered the cost of food and accommodation for the week. The students, having just finished their GCSEs, fully immersed themselves in an academic programme designed to encourage university style learning based on independent research and small group seminars. This will once again be the case in the summer 2016 when out 2014 cohort will spend the week at Fitz.

In addition to this, several noted Fitz fellows, such as the Master of Fitzwilliam College Nicky Padfield, Dr Rosemary Horrox and Dr John Leigh have spoken to our students, as have members of the college’s admissions and school liaison office.
